Travel about 4800 miles north from the Equator and you arrive at the Arctic Circle. But our 7-day Arctic Circle Tour begins in Canada’s Yukon, crossing the "dotted line" that marks Latitude 66.33 degrees and encountering Arctic wildlife, snow-covered mountains and celestial fireworks along the way.
Every nature photographer dreams of capturing on film the magical Aurora Borealis or Northern Lights, but few have the opportunity to do so north of the Arctic Circle. This Canadian Signature Experience promises a rare and special photography opportunity on a winter road trip in Yukon.

The route travels north on the famous Dempster Highway, the only road that crosses the Arctic Circle in Canada, providing ample opportunity to explore the arctic winter wilderness and experience the majestic beauty of the northern mountain ranges.
The most breathtaking landscapes in the Yukon are found along the Dempster Highway. We will spend three days within range of the Aurora oval, a huge ring above the Earth's Geomagnetic North Pole, assuring the best possible prospect to see and photograph Canada’s amazing Northern Lights.

This trip, designed for photography enthusiasts, delivers a multitude of photo ops of breathtaking, snow-covered landscapes, wildlife and the Aurora Borealis. Join Nature Tours of Yukon’s Canadian Signature Experience on this exceptional photography winter trip in Yukon!

Trip Itinerary
  • Day 1: Are we there yet? Transfer from Whitehorse Airport to your hotel in downtown Whitehorse. Meet your guide and the other participants for an pre-trip information meeting. The rest of the day is at your leisure. (No meals included)
  • Day 2:  White is today’s favorite colour. The drive from Whitehorse to Dawson shows us already that tiny glimpse of awesomeness that lies ahead to our way to the Arctic Circle. Snow covered roads, snow covered trees, snow covered mountains and ice covered rivers. And a highway lodge snuggled beneath its white blanket, sleeping and waiting for the warm, endless summer days that will come along eventually. Life slows down significantly in the deepfreeze. Hopefully we’ll have our first encounter with the amazing Aurora Borealis. Overnight in Dawson. (lunch bag included)
  • Day 3: Sunrise in Dawson City. We’ll driving the Dempster Highway and get to see what all the fuss is about. Time to experience firsthand why they call Yukon “larger than life”. Be prepared to be amazed.
  • This is what one of our guest wrote about this day: “We were prepared to be amazed our first day on the Dempster Highway and we saw indeed what all the fuss is about. Let me tell you that “Yukon; Larger than life” is an understatement. This land is much, much more than “larger than life” We were not only amazed;. It was breathtaking. It was…. Well, actually there are no words to do this land justice. -Lost for words-“. (lunch bag included). Overnight in Eagle Plains.
  • Day 4: Across the dotted line. After an amazing night, with the sky ablaze with twinkling stars and Northern Lights, and with a hearty breakfast in our tummies, we are off to the Arctic Circle. Alas; the dotted line is hidden under a thick pack of snow, but there are lots of other nice features to see. As there are: the Arctic Circle interpretive sign, panoramic views of the Richardson Mountains, snow, mountains, more snow, more mountains, a snow hare and in the far distance hundreds of caribou.
  • We’ll keep driving north, and the “larger than life” theme gets to a “very, very much larger than life” stage real quick, when we reach the border with Northwest Territories. We'll take the time to explore and photograph the impressive winter landscape. Then we drive back to Eagle Plains for dinner. Weather permitting we can go back to the Arctic Circle to see the Aurora Borealis dancing. (lunch bag included)
  • Day 5: Again, but the other way around. Today you can sleep in before we return to Dawson. Again the amazing views of the snow covered mountains along the road will keep you clicking away! In Dawson City we will go up to the Midnight Dome to see the Northern Lights. (lunch bag included)
  • Day 6: Was that a toe in my drink? After visiting Diamond Tooth Gertie’s and getting up close and personal with the famous sour toe cocktail last night, our small band of Arctic Circle explorers is ready to return to civilisation. But before we return to Whitehorse, we'll explore Dawson and we visit the Dänojà Zho Cultural Centre.
  • Once in Whitehorse you'll check in at the hotel downtown. (lunch bag included)
  • Day 7 We'll take you to the airport in time for your flight. Or spend a few days in Whitehorse and try ice fishing, snowshoeing, dog sledding or snowmobiling.
